Mexico - China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

The honorable Mr. José Luis Bernal Rodríguez, Ambassador of Mexico to the People’s Republic of China, visited Tsinghua University on November 30th, to deliver a lecture about “Mexico - China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”  The lecture was followed by a Q&A session.

 

The Ambassador Bernal started the session illustrating the development of the Sino-Mexican relationship, which reached the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit of President Xi Jinping to Mexico in June 2013.  


During the engaging talk, Mr. Bernal revealed that Mexico is the number one manufacturing power in Latin America and exporting leader of high-quality products as food, appliances, TV, computer screens, cars, auto parts, medical devices, aeronautical equipment. The Ambassador praised Mexico-China relations saying that both countries possess a rich history and millenary civilizations that created convergences. However, there is a need to increase the expansion of both the Spanish and Chinese languages to strengthen the cultural understanding.

 

He pointed that the next step to fully develop a comprehensive strategic partnership is to expand bilateral cooperation in key areas such as clean energies, biotechnology, agriculture, aerospace engineering, water resources, environment, and health. The Ambassador ended his lecture inviting all the participants to attend the commemorative concert of the Beijing Symphonic Orchestra in the Forbidden Concert Hall organized to celebrate the 45 years of Diplomatic Relations between China and Mexico.

 

This session of the Tsinghua Ambassador Talks, counted with the participation of Professor Yan Xuetong, Dean of the Department of International Relations; Mr. Ricardo Ballesteros, Education and Press attaché at the Embassy of Mexico; Professor Lu Yang, Postdoctoral Fellow; and more than 25 students from different programs at Tsinghua.
