Establishment of"Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations Alumni Council"

On April 23, 2011, Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations held "Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations General Assembly Centennial Celebration," during which the "Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations Alumni Council" was established. The following constitutes the "Constitution of the Alumni Council," as well as a name list featuring the leaders and members of the organization.

Chapter I  General Provisions

Article I   Organization Name: "Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations Alumni Council."

Article II  This council is a social grouping that consists of voluntary participation by graduates and faculty members of Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations (hereinafter referred to as IR Department). It relies on Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations.

Article III   The aim of this council is to strengthen the link between domestic and international-based alumni, enhance relations between alma mater and IR Department, carry forward the fine traditions of Tsinghua University, and contribute to the development of both alma mater and the IR Department.

Article IV  Offices will be located at Tsinghua University’s IR Department.

 

Chapter II  Mission

Article V  Promote friendship, mutual aid and cooperation between alumni within the organization.

Article VI  Contact alumni at home and abroad who express concern and support for their alma mater and IR Department development, to offer ideas and make contributions to improving their construction.

Article VII  Organize lectures, seminars, cultural, recreational and other activities.

Article VIII  Edit alumni information, communication details and experiences.

 

Chapter III  Member

Article IX  Alumni consist of teachers, office staff, retired faculty, postdoctoral and graduate students, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. By recognizing these articles and filling out a membership application form, they can become members.

Article X  Member Rights

1. Possess the right to participate in activities organized by the Council;

2. Possess the right to offer criticisims and constructive comments of the Council;

3. Possess the right of making suggestions and voting.

Article XI  Member Obligations

1. Recognize the constitution, fulfill Council resolutions;

2. Support and participate in Council activities, maintain the reputation of alma mater and the Council;

3. Complete work assigned by the Council;

4. Notify Council Secretariat of work unit, employment and change of employment.

5. Each member will pay yearly dues of 100 yuan. These will be based on voluntary donations.

 

Chapter IV  Organization

Article XII  Terms and general items. Alumni will serve in five-year terms, with a General Assembly held every five years to consider, amend and adopt the constitution; consider and report on the work by the Council; make decisions on Council policy and planning activities; complete general work.

Article XIII  The Council will consist of an Honorary President, President, Honorary Vice President, and Vice President. It will also have a Secretary-General, Executive Deputy Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General. The first alumni leadership and membership arose out of the department preparatory committee and department of the party and government leadership. Follow-on changes will be undertaken after working meetings among the Chairman, Secretary-General and Vice Secretary General.

Article XIV  Work will be undertaken by the Executive Vice President and the Secretariat under the auspices of the Council Chairman. The Secretariat will be organized by the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General.

 

Chapter V  Funds

Article XV  Sources of funding

1. Member contributions, voluntary contributions and social sponsorship;

2. Department of International Relations sponsorship.

3. Other lawful income.

Article XVI  A reprt on income and expenditure of funds will be released annually,with a financial report at the General Assembly every four years.
