The 10th Activity this Academic Year of Developing Country Studies Lecture Series Held

The 10th activity this academic year of Developing Country Studies (DCS) Lecture Series was held in Room 315 of Mingzhai Building from 17:30 to 19:00 on May 19th. Anne Booth, Professor from School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, gave the students a lecture on “Economic Development in Southeast Asia”. First, Professor Booth made an introduction to the economic development history of ASEAN countries since their independence. Then she tried to explain the large disparities in economic development within ASEAN, from the perspective of colonial legacies and different types of economic policies in history. She also pointed out the importance as well as obstacles in the process of ASEAN economic integration. Overall Professor Booth showed the importance of economic development history to the students doing area studies.

Professor Zhang Chuanjie, Director of DCS Program, hosted the lecture. 6 DCS doctoral students of the grade 2013 and 4 DCS doctoral students of the grade 2014 participated.
