The fourth academic activity of Developing Country Studies (DCS) Lecture Series in autumn semester was held in the Room 315 of Mingzhai Building from 10:00 to 11:30 on November 7th. Patrick Mendis, currently a commissioner to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO and an affiliate professor of public and international affairs at George Mason University, gave a presentation on his paper ‘China’s Buddhist Diplomacy in Sri Lanka and “CIA”: Is the Indian Ocean a New Theater for Conflict with the US?’ In retrospect of the Sino-Sri Lanka history and American’s history of “Trade for Peace”, he illustrated in-depth and in-breadth analysis and comparison between American vision and Chinese mission on “Pacific Dream”. He pointed out that reviving the past through the new Silk Road is a Chinese Renaissance manifest destiny in which Buddhist Diplomacy should play an important role.
