Developing Country Studies (DCS) Lecture Series Held the Fourth Academic activity in Autumn Semester

The fourth academic activity of Developing Country Studies (DCS) Lecture Series in autumn semester was held in the Room 315 of Mingzhai Building from 10:00 to 11:30 on November 7th. Patrick Mendis, currently a commissioner to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO and an affiliate professor of public and international affairs at George Mason University, gave a presentation on his paper ‘China’s Buddhist Diplomacy in Sri Lanka and “CIA”: Is the Indian Ocean a New Theater for Conflict with the US?’ In retrospect of the Sino-Sri Lanka history and American’s history of “Trade for Peace”, he illustrated in-depth and in-breadth analysis and comparison between American vision and Chinese mission on “Pacific Dream”. He pointed out that reviving the past through the new Silk Road is a Chinese Renaissance manifest destiny in which Buddhist Diplomacy should play an important role.
