On April 10th at 4 p.m., the Ceremony for the “Wang Xuelian Education Fund” Awards took place in Teaching Building 4 Room 4101 on the Tsinghua University Campus.
Miss Wang Xuelian, a member of the China Democratic League and Chairman of the Jia Lian Group, is a true visionary, proponent of social responsibility as well as great supporter for public education. In 2009, she donated 21 million Yuan to Tsinghua University in form of the “Wang Xuelian Education Fund”, which supports Tsinghua University research centers, teaching, administration and students in need. Besides this, the “Wang Xuelian Education Fund” also gives out merit-based and needs-based awards to students at Department of International Relations. The awards ceremony takes place every year after the start of the spring semester.
This year’s award ceremony was presided over by Professor Tang Xiaoyang and attended by Xu Jinsheng, general manager of Jia Lian Group, Professor Yan Xuetong, president of the Institute of Modern International Relations, Professor Zhang Lihua, Professor Sun Xuefeng and Professor Zhao Kejin.
The ceremony was opened by speeches by Professor Yan Xuetong, Professor Zhang Lihua, and Xu Jinsheng, who praised the cooperation between Tsinghua University and the Wang Xuelian Education Fund and pledged for continuous collaboration in the future. The representatives of Tsinghua University also expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation for the great contributions made by the Wang Xuelian Foundation.
Following this was the presentation of the different categories of awards to the students. These included awards for academic excellence, research awards, social contribution awards and academic activity awards. The award certificates were handed over by the faculty and company representative, who also posed for group pictures with the students.
In conclusion, student representatives were called upon to deliver speeches, in which they expressed thanks to the Fund and the department as a whole and also gave personal anecdotes about what studying at Tsinghua has taught them.
The ceremony came to an end with the warm applause of participants and spectators, wishing further success to all current and future recipients.
