On the afternoon of May 18th, teachers, students, graduates and their friends came together for the spring semester’s soccer tournament at the Zijing Sports Ground at Tsinghua University.
The game between current students and teachers on one side and graduates and friends of the department on the other side kicked off at 2 p.m. on a beautiful, sunny day. With a great turnout and sizeable teams, the pitch was filled well. The first half of the game was characterized by great defensive performances on both sides of the field.
The department’s teams relied mostly on fast breaks and corners but did not get lucky on the finish, while they managed to hold off the numerous goal attempts by the opposite team. Thus, at halftime the score was still nil-nil.
Not long after the start of the second half both teams started to score, showing the spectators a great offensive soccer match. Neither team managed to hold the advantage for very long, though, so that after the regular match time the score was a 4-4 draw.
The department team managed to get in the lead once more in overtime, but with the teams thinning out in numbers as some players had to leave, they did not manage to hold the score. Ultimately everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed playing or watching a great game of soccer.
