On August 18, 2015, Tsinghua University’s Department of International Relations hosted a visiting delegation of 22 M.A. and PhD students from the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and two staff members from the China-United States Exchange Foundation and the Chinese People’s Association For Friendship With Foreign Countries. The delegation was led by Ms. Zhaojin Ji, who serves as program coordinator for SAIS China Studies and assistant to David M. Lampton, a prominent China scholar.
Professor Zhiqin Shi, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, gave a warm welcoming speech and a presentation on Tsinghua University. Professor Shi also moderated a panel discussion with three incoming students of the Tsinghua-SAIS Dual Degree Master’s Program on Global Politics and Economics (TSDM). He expressed his sincere appreciation of the strong partnership between Tsinghua’s Department of International Relations and SAIS.
Following the panel discussion, Ms. Jing Cao from Tsinghua’s Foreign Affairs Office of School of Social Sciences gave an account of the “Summer School of Global Politics and Economy” program jointly organized by Tsinghua and SAIS that brought Chinese undergraduate students to visit Washington, D.C. in July 2015.
Later, Tsinghua’s Associate Professor Chuanjie Zhang, Deputy Director of the International Student Office, gave a comprehensive introduction about the University’s ongoing efforts to promote the internationalization of education and diversity in its programs.
Finally, Associate Professor Xiaoyang Tang gave a brief presentation on the current situation of the newly established Tsinghua-SAIS Dual Degree Program. Enthusiastic about the vision of further cooperation between Tsinghua and SAIS, delegates from both sides shared insightful comments and asked many questions.
SAIS is a leading institution in the study of international relations, enjoying an excellent reputation both in the United States and around the globe. This visit by the SAIS delegation to China aims to gain first-hand experience of China and enhance mutual understanding between the two schools.
